We work with three simple principles:
1. Implement more renewable energy
2. Support communities to adapt to climate change
3. Reduce CO2 emissions
Generating clean energy – we invest in renewable energy in developing countries. Our first project is a wind farm in India, and we reinvest 75% of the profits from selling the electricity in more wind turbines - Each turbine grows clean energy far into the future.
Supporting communities around the world – 25% of the net power revenue is donated to the community in the host country to support climate change adaptation and sustainable development projects that help to break the poverty cycle.
UK Engagement Programme - we work in the UK to raise awareness about the current day impacts of climate change and to help people lower their own emissions. This is an essential part of our work if we are to achieve a converging world.
Carbon credits for the offsetting community - the wind turbines generate carbon credits, Gold Standard Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs). The Converging World sells and retires carbon credits, putting them beyond use for trade in the carbon market – our desire is for lasting economic development with low carbon emissions.
Why is this approach so effective?
Not-for-profit – The Converging World is a charity whose objectives are to tackle climate change while creating a just and sustainable world. Because we are a charity, profits are not distributed to shareholders but are reinvested back into the business model to ‘breed’ more turbines.
A business model – Due to this ‘breeder’ effect each donation works 3 times harder and long term revenue streams are secured to fund local action and support at the grass roots.
Development overseas – our efforts expand the renewable energy sector in developing countries, and we plough the income generated back into further expansion.
Secure, long-term funds for climate change adaptation – we give people, anywhere in the world, the resources to become climate resilient.
Connections – donors are linked to projects, communities are linked across the world, and ideas are linked together.
